Dr Ricky Tsui, Director of Research and Development (East Asia), Arup
Dr Ricky Tsui has been leading ARUP’s R&D since 2008, to drive various research, creativity, and innovation activities in the East Asian region. He is the Arup University Leader, Knowledge Management Leader & Shenzhen Digital Acceleration Hub Leader and leads the pursuit of Design and Technical Excellence in the company. His work covers the entire knowledge value-chain from anticipating knowledge needs through to various foresight and innovation initiatives, developing new knowledge through managing different R&D projects, in collaboration with external partners and facilitating the dissemination of developed and captured knowledge through various Communities of Practice, to knowledge empowerment through organizing informal and formal learning activities under Arup University. Ricky also practises and teaches design thinking in many innovative projects and training courses. He has been the Region Ventures Champion for many years and helps promote intrapreneurship from harvesting new ideas to developing commercial products/services.
Dr Paul Wang, Director, Techno-Entrepreneurship Core and Associate Director, Knowledge Exchange Office, HKU
Dr Paul Wang is the key coordinator of HKU’s entrepreneurial initiatives for research commercialisation and fostering the institutional entrepreneurship ecosystem, spearheading and implementing policy and key initiatives in deep tech innovations. Before joining HKU, Paul drove entrepreneurship development at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University for over nine years and successfully built a dynamic ecosystem that nurtured more than 450 startups, including several unicorns. He also launched the university venture capital fund, making a dozen investments in early-stage tech startups and establishing valuable networks with stakeholders from the Chinese mainland and overseas. Before transitioning to knowledge transfer, Paul had over 15 years of experience practising entrepreneurship as a co-founder and chief business developer in early-stage companies that were later listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX). He holds an MBA from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and completed his DBA at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University on university venture capital funds. Dr Wang served as Secretariat of the International Strategic Technology Alliance (ISTA) and is a Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) and initiated the establishment of Shanghai Hong Kong Technology Transfer Network (SHK-TTN).
Mr Alan Wong, Data Science Associate in AI and Data Intelligence (Properties), Nan Fung Group
Alan is a Data Science Associate at Nan Fung Group, where he specializes in developing Generative AI (GenAI) solutions to support various verticals in the international real estate market. In his current role, he has worked on projects related to environmental sustainability, applying AI to promote eco-friendly practices and sustainable development. Alan stays up-to-date with industry advancements in AI and continuously explores new technologies to bring innovative solutions to his projects. With prior experience in both research and applied AI projects in the financial sector, Alan is passionate about using technology to solve real-world challenges and is frequently invited to judge digital technology competitions. He holds a Master of Computer Science from University of Bath and a MSc in Analytics from Georgia Institute of Technology.
Prof Erwin Huang, Adjunct Professor (Entrepreneurship), Division of Integrative Systems and Design, HKUST
Professor Erwin Huang is a serial entrepreneur, a leader in a social enterprise and the eLearning field for more than 30 years. Currently, he serves as Associate Director of the Technology, Leadership and Entrepreneurship Program at the Division of Integrative Systems and Design, and Adjunct Professor (Entrepreneurship) of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His mission is to teach Social Innova on and Entrepreneurship to university students and to let more young generations understand entrepreneurial spirit, identify social issues, as well as creating social impact through innovations. Erwin is a pioneer in integrating technology with education and social enterprise. As an angel investor and mentor, he has a wealth of experience in leading startups, public companies, and social enterprises in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Tokyo, Silicon Valley, and London. His entrepreneurial expertise extends to successfully guiding multiple companies through the process of going public in Hong Kong and Europe. Additionally, he held leadership roles for a decade, including managing one of the largest luxury companies in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Beyond his founding roles, he serves on several advisory committees for companies and schools, contributing his expertise to various educational and social initiatives.
Prof Carrie Ling, Director, Entrepreneurship Center, HKUST
Professor Carrie Ling is the Director of the Entrepreneurship Center and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Integrative Systems and Design, leading the entrepreneurship development Previously at HKUST. She was Associate Director of Business Development at HKSTP, focusing on research commercialization under the InnoHK initiative. Prof. Ling has taught various courses in entrepreneurship and healthcare innovation at HKUST and co-founded the “DreamCatchers Medtech Hackathon” in HK. With a bachelor’s and PhD in Mechanical Engineering, she has published over 60 papers and holds a US patent.
Prof Joon Nak Choi, Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Management, HKUST
Professor Joon Nak CHOI (JC) is Adjunct Associate Professor of Management and Advisor to the MSc in Business Analytics Program at HKUST. Professor Choi has also held visiting professorships at Stanford University and NYU Shanghai. His research and teaching focus lies at the intersection of strategy and AI. Professor Choi has been involved with several startups. He was Chief Data Scientist for AssertID, which was spun out from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and co-founded Zectr, which applied machine learning to automate survey-driven market research. More recently, he founded Learnovate, a HKUST spinoff that is applying AI to education. He also advises several AI startups.
Prof. Alvin Leung, Associate Head and Associate Professor, Department of Information Systems, CityUHK
Alvin Leung is an Associate Professor in the Department of Information Systems at the College of Business, City University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on the intersection of information systems and finance, particularly in IT business value, business analytics, and information security. Committed to integrating his research into his teaching, Alvin aims to equip students with business strategies and innovative technologies to boost corporate competitiveness. His work has been published in leading IS journals and international conferences. Additionally, he serves as Associate Editor for Decision Support Systems and Communications of the AIS, contributing to the advancement of the discipline.
Prof. Shiqi Wang, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science, CityUHK
Shiqi Wang has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science, City University of Hong Kong since May 2017. His research interests include image/video coding, processing, analysis, security, and quality assessment. He has proposed over 60 technical proposals to ISO/MPEG, ITU-T, and AVS standards and authored over 200 refereed papers, winning multiple best paper awards. He received the Best Paper Award for IEEE Multimedia 2018, the Best Paper Award at the 2017 Pacific-Rim Conference on Multimedia, and co-authored a Best Student Paper for IEEE Image Processing 2018.
Prof. Chung Chan, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, CityUHK
Chung Chan received the B.Sc., M.Eng. and Ph.D. from the EECS Department at MIT in 2004, 2005 and 2010 respectively. He was a Research Assistant Professor at the Institute of Network Coding, the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2013 to 2017. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, City University of Hong Kong.
Mr Albert Au, Founder of PharmCare
With over 20 years of experience in the digital health industry, Albert has dedicated his career to empowering self-care and community care with technology. His flagship product, TeamCare, is a SaaS-based Personal Care Plan (PCP), Case Management, and Point of Care (POC) system that has been transformed from the bedside nursing care plan used in hospital settings. Additionally, Albert has developed PharmCare, an integrated community pharmacy solution with SaaS, API, and APP components. Albert’s commitment to healthcare technology extends beyond his work in product development. He is also a co-founder of HKGoodPost, a platform for SDG and Social Innovation blogging, and has initiated the Creative Commons Project in Drug Icon to enhance medication understanding for the elderly, carers, and ethnic minorities. Albert holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and an MBA degree from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is also a part-time lecturer at HKU Space and a visiting lecturer at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in entrepreneurship education.
Mr Arnold Cheung, Founder of ProFind
Arnold is an experienced Artificial Intelligence researcher with a demonstrated history of working in the information technology and services industry. He holds a Master of Science in Computing (Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence) from Imperial College London and Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from University College London.
Dr Lisa Lam, Director, Centre for Innovative Service-Learning, HKBU
Dr Lisa Lam leads academic service-learning initiatives and oversees the development of TriAngle, HKBU’s first co-working space that promotes social good and innovation. Dr Lam has extensive experience in teaching, programme development, quality assurance and education management. She strongly believes in the transformative power of education, and champions learning experiences that are relevant, engaging and inclusive. Dr Lam serves as a Court member at HKBU and holds the role of University Coordinator for the United Nations SDSN. She regularly serves as a judge on local, regional and international award panels. Dr Lam holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK.
